The Ethics for Building Cars

                                         The Ethics for Building Cars

Mechanical Engineer have the responsible to design and implement cost-effective equipment modifications to help improve safety and reliability is the general description of what we do. It is much more than that because it depends on where you are working and the position that the engineer holds at the company. The higher you are in the company the more responsible you have to the perform for the company and the consumer you are building the car for. We got our mechanical engineer degree building the needed skill to fulfill the need in these big companies whether it is building cars, plane, boat, or other things.

My position would be at Chevrolet as project team manager. My responsible will be to work with the design team to come up with new design to meet the requirement for the project and make sure to communicate with management. The most important people I will need to work with is marketing because we need to show the consumers’ that our product is going to be worth the amount of money they will spend on it. The project wouldn’t sell if it doesn’t appeal to the consumers’ minds.  I will also work with digital management to make sure that we create the best graphic scheme for the consumers. It will be a good work environment which is clean, respectful coworkers, and good pay. We will be a company that comes together on holidays and sit down to cerebrate together like a family. We will be professional when we are at work but also be able to go out and enjoy each other company on the weekends or after work.

Our building will be big and made of glass to show what amazing creation we have made when you are looking through them. I will treat my coworkers with the up most of respect to make sure we are always working with efficiency. I have to listen to everyone ideas to be a good manager to include everyone thought. The most ethical thing I will have to do is to let a coworker down softly if their idea isn’t that good. Another thing will be to make sure everyone is comfortable with engaging in all the project and can communicate with each other.  I will have to make sure that everyone understands that we are a team because we don’t need to let our self-egos get in the way of what we are trying to accomplish.I will still have the responsibility to report to my superiors if anyone on my team isn't  doing their job or acting with misconduct.I will communicate with my coworker first before going to my superiors because I  want them to have the benefit of the doubt . The main goal is to build the best project we can and make it perform with efficiency. I will take most of the responsible if there ends up something being wrong with the car because I am the project leader but I will do my best to review everything with team before we release the final tests. These ethical responsibilities are things that I will be able to accomplish when I get to this position one day .

The Unethical Scandal at GM (General Motors)
The scandal was about the fact that GM wasn’t recalling the cars with faulty ignition switches for a decade. These switches could shut down the engine and therefore not allow the airbag to launch in these cars. On February 6,2014 there would recall 800,000 to get them fixed and they would continue this process for the next couple month. They also had to pay a huge fine of 900 million dollars to the United States and pay compensation for 124 deaths cause by the problem. This all happened because the ignition switches had detent plunger  which was causing them to be insufficient .This scandal come have be avoided if they would have checked their product good to make sure that they functioned right .The worse part about this is that the company knew about the problem and didn’t do anything .That shouldn’t be appecptable because these vehicle can kill people with one small mistake so this can’t ever happen again .My job will be to make sure this doesn’t occur in the future with the project we produce .

                                                                                               Recall

This is just too Far
Mr. Nader wrote a book in the 1965 which was called Unsafe at Any Speed  . This book would explain rear engine GM Chevrolet Corvair in the first chapter. He was talk about how the swing axis suspension would cause under tuck in some circumstances. The worse thing happened when GM was caught private investigators to follow and investigate him. They said that they only wanted to know if Mr. Nader was working for any of the personal-injury lawyers in Corvair litigation. They would later have to make a public apologize to Mr. Nader for trying to smear him and downgrade him for what was said in the book. These are thing that a car company should even be getting themselves involved in because it is pointless. They should have looked into the problem he was talking about and address them in the right manner.

  1. As a ME major I love the way you describe your dream to work with cars in Chevrolet to design vehicles/marketing. Also, it is really great that you care for teamwork, and the tolerance of egos. Not to mention the GM ignition switch scandal, which was unethical for preventing airbags to deployed(125 deaths). I would say that you should describe a situation of a employee that performed a misconduct, and what is the following steps is the best ethical approach. Plus, describe how will you threat ethically towards your superiors, and employee's or anyone that are below you/team. All in all, it was a fantastic description of your dream for the future.

  2. You've got a lot of ideas, and I see that you have thought about the issues of ethics in your field. There is an issue with your sense of audience, however, as it seems as if you're writing to somebody else who knows the prompt, rather than somebody who might be searching the internet for information. Additionally, your analysis is presented very roughly, with your ideas stacked on top of each other whether it was in regards to your behavior towards fellow employees, the consumer, or your own corporation. You showed a pretty strong opinion about the situation at GM motors, but is it possible that they did everything they could and having not detected any issues, actually did the right thing in covering the cost of the recall? If not, why not?
