Ethical Considerations in Civil Engineering

In the field of civil Engineering, there are many things that can go wrong with regards to designing the building and building it. As I continue to my pursing my major their have been ethical considerations in regards to the safety of people when it comes to the designing a building and make sure it is able to stay put and hold under any nature disasters. For example, a doctor has an ethical consideration to study carefully peoples heath by asking questions and figuring out what's wrong with them, they can't just give then pain killers and send them home. That's because what if the patient had a kidney infections or diabetes . Doctors ethical consideration is look out for their patience and not just send them home with pain killers, what if they end up dying and who should we blame. The same thing counts for civil engineering  I always keep in mind that if in the future I design a building that can not with stand an 8.1 earthquake and comes crashing down and  people die by it I'm the one who will be blame. So its a big load of responsibility and ethical consideration. So I always need to keep my motive check as I'm pursuing my major, which is to able to design building that can with stand any nature disaster's like the pyramids that the Aztecs builds.

You see many people can be so ambitus over money and always wants more, for that reason sometimes they forget and ignore their ethical considerations which can affect others peoples lives. Some people forget that money will always come and go and its always there but not people, people only live once and if their lives ends at a young age by dying by a disease that could been taking care of or by dying in a building that was not constructed right or tested. Sometimes people just end up doing whatever when a deadline is approaching and they run out of time and this can not happen when it come to designing a building.

The leaning tower is an example of why ethical considerations should play a role at all times because things like that tower can happen if you just want get the job done .

  1. A little bit more consideration should have been put into this essay. You are right to note that the ethical responsibilities of an architect can be compared, in some way, to those of a doctor, but you spent a long time on the metaphor, and skimped on the details. Also, I'm not really sure that the tower of Pisa was an ethical issue. After all, buildings were built very differently back then, as we didn't know as much about structural integrity then as we now now. Also, you can still climb it without getting hurt.
