How to Wash Dishes

Although it may seem like a basic chore, washing dishes is a skill that is needed throughout every individuals lifetime. Now and days there are modern kitchen appliances that can help with the cause, but there is nothing like a good old hand washed dish. So sit tight and roll up your sleeves because its about to get sudsy.

STEP ONE: GRAB SOAP & A SPONGE

Choosing the best dish soap varies from person to person. Some people like their soap to be very sudsy while others prefer a more mellow soap that can still get the job done. A sponge would preferably be a soft one with a scrubbing patch on one side.

STEP TWO: TURN ON WATER ON MEDUIM HEAT

Allowing the warm water to soak the dishes will help remove and residue on the dishes. This will also help the scrubbing process because it will loosen any harden particles of food.

STEP THREE: POUR A GOOD SIZABLE DROP OF SOAP ON THE SPONGE

You want your sponge to have enough soap to scrub any residue off but not too much. Too much soap can cause the dish to overflow with suds, therefore making it difficult to see the progress with stain removing.

STEP FOUR: SCRUB EACH DISH

As you move from dish to dish, the pile of dirty dishes will decrease while the clean pile will increase. It is best to keep each pile separate. Keeping this station segregated will allow you to differ each pile from the other and will save you time in the long run. It will also help prevent rewashing any dishes.

STEP FIVE: RUN EACH CLEAN DISH UNDER THE WATER & ALLOW IT TO DRAIN

Running the dish through the water will allow the soap and suds to come off properly. It will also help you observe the dishes should any of them need further scrubbing. Once the dish is suds-free, allow the dish to rest on a dish rack to let the remaining water drain off and dry.

STEP SIX: CLEAN UP

Once every dish is on the drying rack, use the warm water to squeeze out any remaining soap in the sponge. This will help prolong undesired odors to develop within the sponge. After the sponge is clean, allow the water to run along the sides of the sink to runoff any remaining suds.

  1. Working in a restaurant, it is essential to know how to wash dishes properly, and I think this blog covers the gist of it very well. As for recommendations, the capital letters help each step stand out, however, I believe that bolding them would make them stand out even more so that the reader can see each step individually. It's also a bit more appealing to the eyes when you are just scrolling through the whole blog very quickly.

  2. Believe it or not, I was actually looking forward to reading this blog. My wife can be critical of the way that I do dishes, so I was hoping for some tips that would up my dish game. This is a pretty good start, but I would have loved to see more details, that would answer some questions that arise from your blog, such as: what do you do with the different sponge sides? Where are you stacking the dishes?
